Amongst other things, the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974 requires that where an employer has more than 5 staff, a statement of Health & Safety policy needs to be prepared and recorded. For less than 5 staff this needs to be carried out but need not be recorded.

They are  required to show the Companies intent with regard to health and Safety, the organisation in place for the implementation of the policy and the arrangements in place for carrying the policy out.
